Residents of Lokia in Sigatoka have raised concern that they are being overcharged by a bus company providing services to the area.
Resident Pratap Chand told Fijivillage that for the last five months there was no bus service to the area and from Monday the Dominion Transport began servicing the area.
Chand claimed that bus drivers are charging almost double the fare they paid before. According to Chand, previously they paid $1.60. However, now they are paying almost $2.60. He said residents are facing major financial difficulties as people have to use buses to go to school and work.
Meanwhile, Dominion Transport Limited director Satya Nand confirmed that the Land Transport Authority has marked fifteen stages for the same route, which previously had ten stages. Nand agreed this has caused a slight increase in bus fares, however, refuted claims by Chand that the increase was significant.
