There are revelations today that some locals were allegedly involved in the smuggling of the 2 kilogram’s of cocaine into the country last Thursday.
In an exclusive interview with Legend FM News, Police Commissioner, Commodore Esala Teleni says they have managed to get some leads which will expose the locals involved in the trafficking of the hard drugs.
Meanwhile, there are also worrying signs after revelations that FIRCA does not have the equipment to detect the drugs coming into the country.
Acting FIRCA Chief Executive, Jitoko Tikolevu stresses that the risk of illicit drugs and other goods crossing our borders has always been there however, they need resources like enhanced IT software, scanning equipment and drug identification machines to assist in their work.
He says smugglers are becoming more complex and without the required resources it would be difficult for customs to make interceptions. FIRCA also says that there are no perfect border control agencies with 100 percent detection rate as smugglers are always devising new methods to beat the systems in place.
FIRCA is yet to determine how the 2 kilogram’s of cocaine was brought into the country without being detected by its officials.
