Since the announcement that the government has removed the price control on chicken and chicken products, the Consumer Council of Fiji has been monitoring the supermarkets after their survey revealed that there is shortage of local chicken in supermarkets.

Chief Executive Officer, Premila Kumar said they have visited a few supermarkets in the Suva area and found out that there is a shortage of chicken, and upon asking were informed that the supply has been late.

However, Kumar said they have been informed by the supplier that the supply is normal.

Kumar said they gave leeway to these supermarkets last Sunday due to mother's day as there was a possibility that supermarkets ran out of stock and to their understanding the stocks were to be replenished by Tuesday.

Kumar claimed that they carried out a survey yesterday and did not find local chicken in the freezers.
