A local has become only the third Pacific islander to be appointed a country Chief Executive Officer of the ANZ Bank.

In a statement, ANZ said Isikeli Tuituku has been appointed CEO Kiribati and will be reporting to CEO Pacific Central Norman Wilson.

Tuituku moves to the role from ANZ's business in Papua New Guinea, where he has been Chief Operating Officer for the past two years and replaces Terence Low, who has held the role for two years and will move to a new position working with Commercial and Small to Medium Enterprises in PNG.

Tuituku said he was looking forward to moving to Kiribati.

He said as the only bank in Kiribati, they have an opportunity to contribute to the local community and he is looking forward to getting involved in programs including financial literacy initiatives.

Tuituku will commence his role in coming months.
