Lions coach Johan Ackermann has indicated injured skipper Warren Whiteley is on course to play the Super Rugby final against the Hurricanes.
The inspirational Whitely has played less than an hour since injuring a shoulder during the Springboks' June test series against Ireland.
The big No 8 was involved in the quarterfinal win over the Crusaders but did not play the semifinal victory over the Highlanders.
Whiteley has travelled to New Zealand with the Lions squad and appears to be making enough progress to have a chance of playing in a final where the Lions and Hurricanes are both chasing their first titles.
Meanwhile, the Hurricanes are also battling to have their skipper, Dane Coles, involved.
He injured ribs in the quarterfinal win over the Sharks and missed last weekend's semifinal.
The Hurricanes will face the Lions at 7.35pm this Saturday in the Super Rugby Final.
