Fiji weightlifter Maria Liku is targeting a top eight finish at the London Olympics.

The 22-year-old won gold at last year’s Pacific Games in Noumea but has moved up from the 58kg to 63kg class in the London Olympics.

Liku will compete at 2:30am tomorrow in the 63kg snatch and clean and jerk.

Manager Atma Maharaj said Liku is really focused and she’s had a better preparation in the last couple of months.

Judoka Josateki Naulu will fight in the 81kg at 9:40pm tonight, Swimmer Paul Elaisa will be in lane 3 for heat 2 in the men’s 100 meters freestyle at 9pm, and archer Robert Elder will compete at 4:31am tomorrow.

Meanwhile, teenager Ruta Meilutyte won Lithuania’s first ever Olympic gold in the pool by beating American Rebecca Soni in the women’s 100m breaststroke.

China is still leading the medal tally with 9 gold,5 silver and 3 bronze, USA is second with 5 gold,7 silver,5 bronze and France  is third with 3 gold,1 silver,3 bronze.
