The Fijian Teachers Association is calling on all of its members to lift their standards of teaching this year and look back at what they can improve on from their performance last year.

General Secretary Maika Namudu believes that FTA members play a crucial role in the education system in the country as most of them teach in rural areas and in outer islands.

Namudu said that in the past the academic results from Fijian schools outside urban centres has been a concern as most of students struggle to keep up to the level of education enjoyed by those who are in the big school.

He adds that this year the FTA has taken on the challenge to improve on that record.
