Life in Labasa is now changing.
This is the sentiment of Commissioner Northern Inia Seruiratu who said this is evident because there has been a decrease in the number of people moving to Suva for a better life in the last few years.
According to Seruiratu, one of the reasons for these positive changes are providing electricity to people in rural areas, access to better water supply and availability of mobile phone reception in most of the rural areas.
He said the government has also upgraded roads and other infrastructure in the Northern Division.
Seruiratu has also revealed that farmers who were planning to leave their farms and settle in Viti Levu have stayed back after negotiations between the Native Land Trust Board led to the renewal of almost 80 percent of the expired land leases in 2009.
He said farmers who have moved away from sugarcane farming are now actively involved in other agricultural farming.
