Leung Disrespectful to President-Interim AG
Sayed Khiayum told the forum that Leung did not have any objection to the President's age only 20 months ago before he came out and made statements regarding Ratu Josefa Iloilo's ability to carry out his duties as head of state in one of the dailies.
While referring to criticisms leveled against the High Court ruling against the ousted SDL government, Sayed Khiayum also told the gathering that the assessment of the independence of the judiciary should be determined by the integrity of the members of the bench, the application of the law, the absence of inappropriate political, religious and ethnic considerations when arriving at decisions.
He stressed in other words principles of impartiality are factors that need to be considered, not selective use of information and misinformation.
The Interim Attorney General said it was most unfortunate that Leung through his selective analysis of the Takiveikata and Vakalalabure's cases sort to question and undermine the integrity of Justices Nazhat Shameem and Acting Chief Justice Anthony Gates and indeed the current bench.
