The Land Transport Authority stressed that an open public tender process was followed for the e-ticketing services for the bus industry, however, there was no interest shown by Digicel Fiji.
LTA Chief Executive Officer Naisa Tuinaceva said with just days remaining for the new system to be fully implemented in the country, he is disappointed that companies like Tebara Transport and Shore Buses Limited are bringing up other options and refusing to accept one of the approved suppliers.
Tuinaceva said even if other potential suppliers are now coming up with other options, they should realize that they should have done this during the tender process.
The deadline for all buses to have e-ticketing machines is next Friday.
Tebara Transport and Shore Buses are yet to install the machines.
Tebara Transport Director Arvind Maharaj said they want the provision of back end services for the e-ticketing platform to be opened up as Vodafone Fiji is the only approved back end service provider at this stage.
Maharaj also said they want to go with one of the accredited solution providers but LTA should give other options for the back end service providers.
However, Tuinaceva stressed that for now, the only back end service provider for e-ticketing services will be Vodafone Fiji as they had shown interest from the beginning and have passed the LTA’s minimum standard requirement tests.
