Although it seems practically impossible for parliament to be recalled at this stage, the ousted Speaker said the President, the interim government and the military should allow the Lower House to sit again.

Pita Nacuva maintained that if the constitution is still in place, then parliament still exists and he is still the legally appointed Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Nacuva stressed that all amendments need to go through parliament and people need to respect the constitution of the country.

And as the draft People's Charter is about to be made public, Nacuva said any constitutional and electoral changes need parliamentary approval.

He stressed that there is no other way and without parliamentary approval the charter will have no teeth.

Meanwhile, the Interim Attorney General said Pita Nacuva should go back and look at the promulgations put in place by President Ratu Josefa Iloilo at the beginning of the year.

Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said Nacuva should know better because the matter is before the courts.
