Lautoka lawyer Sunil Sharma has been appointed as the acting director of the Legal Aid Commission after the post became vacant when former director Filimoni Vosarogo's contract was not renewed.

Sharma was appointed to the post by the Commission Board chairman, Solicitor General Christopher Pryde this morning.

Pryde confirmed yesterday that Vosarogo was informed via email from the Commission Board that his services are no longer required and for him to vacate office by the end of business yesterday.

Vosarogo has been given adequate time to vacate the official residence of the Director in Muanikau.

Pryde refused to reveal why Vosarogo's contract was not renewed but stressed that the post will soon be advertised and Vosarogo is free to apply.

Pryde said the other lawyers employed at the Legal Aid Commission will be retained.
