Fiji's Interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama has stressed that the Pacific Islands Forum has gone beyond its mandate by issuing an ultimatum to Fiji to have election this year.

Bainimarama has made it clear that elections will only be held in the country after the necessary electoral reforms are carried out by the interim government.

He said it was clear that the leaders of countries like Kiribati and Tuvalu did not want punitive action to be taken against Fiji but he believes Australia and NZ pushed the Pacific leaders in that direction.
