Lawyers are now rushing to get their practicing certificates renewed with the deadline to re-apply for the license ending yesterday as per the Legal Practitioners Decree.

Acting Chief Registrar Ana Rokomokoti confirmed that they have are now in the processing of vetting the over 250 applications received over the last few days.

Rokomokoti said while the decree states that lawyers are to apply for their practicing certificates by June 15th as the license would expire on June 30th, the Office of the Chief Registrar will continue to receive applications as some lawyers are overseas and cannot lodge their documents on time.

It was earlier confirmed that around 90 practicing certificates were issued as of last Friday while the Fiji Law Society has around 300 members and this does not include lawyers from the DPP, State Lawyers and Corporate Lawyers.
