Lawyers charged with alleged breaches of law
Lawyer Abhay Singh, faces 12 allegations of breaches and Hamendra Nagin along with Nagin's law firm Sherani and Co, face nine allegations, and the Attorney General's Chambers confirms that the charges vary in nature and severity.
The allegations range from professional misconduct to unsatisfactory professional conduct.
Both cases were called before the Commission last week and while Singh had requested the hearing be deferred due to medical reasons, the Commissioner John Connors stressed that due to the seriousness of the complaints, one of which had taken place six years ago, and in the matter of public interest, it was best the case be resolved in a timely manner.
Abhay Singh's case is set for hearing on November 3rd and 4th while Hamendra Nagin will appear for his hearing on December 14th and 15th.
The Chief Registrar Ana Rokomokoti is prosecuting both cases.
