Lawyers are discrediting judiciary-AG
As he announced that the interim government will not allow the International Bar Association's Institute of Human Rights to examine the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law in Fiji now, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the same lawyers trying to get the IBA in are also advisers to some of the media outlets.
Sayed-Khaiyum also raised concern over the Fiji Law Society's involvement as the society has also filed cases against the interim government.
Fiji Times Editor, Netani Rika said Sayed-Khaiyum's allegations against certain media outlets are baseless.
Meanwhile, the Interim AG maintains that the IBA can come to Fiji to examine the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law after all the constitutional cases are dealt with.
He said the IBA will have to speak to the judges about the judiciary and that just cannot happen at this stage with the cases in court.
