The High Court case to determine the legality of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption started off before Judge Justice John Byrne today.

The case was called in chambers where both the party lawyers made initial submissions.

The former Police Commissioner Crime Josaia Rasiga and businessman Abbas Ali are challenging the legality of FICAC, its powers to carry out investigations, challenging the promulgation under which FICAC operates and are also challenging whether the president has the powers to enact such laws.

The case will be called in a fortnight for mentioning, however, a date has not been set as yet.
