Suva Lawyer Sheik Hussein Shah today pleaded guilty to two counts of professional misconduct and unsatisfactory professional behaviour before the Independent Legal Services Commissioner John Connors.

The Commission heard from a Ba man, Ram Pratap who had hired Shah to fight his compensation case after he received injuries in an accident.

However, he informed the commission today that nothing had happened to his case and it was dismissed after which he wrote to the Fiji Law Society to inform them about what had happened to his case.

Pratap said he did not receive anything that could show that his case will proceed and whenever he asked Shah about the case, he was informed that he will be given a summon when the case is in court.

Shah's lawyer Gavin O'Driscoll questioned Pratap if there was an issue of an outside court settlement of $2000, to this Pratap said that this was raised with another person who was involved with him in the accident.

Commissioner Connors than raised the issue because of Shah, Pratap's case was struck out and he had nothing else to do but to lodge a complaint as he had engaged and instructed a lawyer who did nothing which is regrettable.

Shah has taken an undertaking that he will pay $1000 dollars compensation for the two counts and expenses of $144 as travelling cost.

He will also make an application to Lautoka High Court to reinstate the case and progress the case with no cost to Pratap.
