The legal counsel of the eight soldiers convicted to 4 years imprisonment after been found guilty of the death of Sakiusa Rabaka hopes that the soldiers will continue to receive their pay while in prison.
Lautoka based lawyer Haroon Ali Shah said he had filed the appeal papers yesterday and if the decision is not in their favor, then it’s reasonable to stop their pay.
Shah said one of the grounds of appeal is that they are not satisfied with the statement of one of the state witnesses.
Meanwhile, Military Spokesman Major Neumi Leweni said since the eight members are part of the institution, the military will look at all legal avenues to assist them while in prison.
Meanwhile, when questioned on whether these eight soldiers will follow the same path as Francis Kean, in that he was reinstated even after a stint in prison, Leweni said the two cases are completely different and should not be compared.
