A late surge from voters in the West saw Lautoka win the people’s choice award to participate in the Uprising Fiji International 7s Festival in Suva next week, edging out early favourites Nadroga.

The Maroons tallied the highest number of votes by the deadline of 3pm yesterday, taking 32.3% of the vote, and will now get invited to join the other local teams in the Uprising 7s.

Nadroga finished with 20.8% of the vote.

Tournament spokesperson Tahitia Kamea said Lautoka reached the final of the Fiji TV 7s in November and the semi finals of yesterday’s second leg in Nadi, so they know the maroons are a strong team and will come to the tournament representing the West.

Minor union Ba finished third in the voting with 9.0%, with Nadi 5.9% and Naitasiri 5.5% in fourth and fifth, respectively.
