The National Union of Municipal Workers said the latest statistics revealed by Reserve Bank of Fiji is frightening.
While the forecast indicates that the current inflation rate is not expected to ease, the Outgoing General Secretary of the Union, Kamal Iyer said if this continues, people will no longer be able to afford basic food items.
RBF said with the inflation rate at 7.6 percent for February, underpinned by the soaring international oil and food prices, persistent inflationary pressures in the months ahead is expected to the end of year forecast of 5 percent revised upwards.
