As the last Prosecution witness took the stand today in the conspiracy trial to murder the Prime Minister and others, questions were raised if tests were conducted to verify that the items confiscated from Ballu Khan=s house were in fact used during an alleged training in Wailase.

Detective Inspector Filipe Jitoko told the court that he had taken over from SSP Tevita Lesu as Investigating Officer to complete the leftover tasks of the investigation which included recording of statements, photographing the scene of the alleged meetings and conducting searches.

Jitoko told the court that they had seized three blue tarpaulins as well as four cane knives from Ballu Khan=s home, following which the tarpaulins were shown to Lance Corporal Peniasi Kuli who identified the tarpaulin as the ones used during training at Ratu Inoke Takiveikata=s farm at Wailase.

Kuli had earlier told the court that during training at Wailase they had made replicas of the 3FIR buildings as well as the armory at QEB in Nabua using tarpaulins.

Raza questioned Jitoko if any forensic tests were carried out on the tarpaulins to see if the same kind of mud at Wailase was ever found on the tarpaulin, to which Jitoko replied that no tests were carried out.

Defense counsel Iqbal Khan also questioned Jitoko if after he was appointed as investigating officer, did he attempt to verify the power point presentation given by Major Isireli Narawa from an independent source.

Jitoko told the court that he did get verification of the report from Military Intelligence handlers and no other party.

The case resumes on Wednesday.
