The largest Hindu Organization in the country, Shri Sanatan Dharam Prathinidhi Sabha of Fiji has welcomed the new Crime Promulgation.
Sabha's Vice President Kamal Sharma said that it is time that strong action is taken against people who attack place of worship and is grateful to the government for coming up with the promulgation.
Earlier this week the Penal Code of Fiji has been replaced by the Crimes Promulgation and a new sentencing and penalties decree has also been approved by the government.
Under the sentencing decree, harsher penalties will be handed down for crimes such as sacrilege while Judges and Magistrates will be given set guidelines to ensure consistency in handing down sentences for various offences.
