The Hibiscus Highway which services the Labasa and Savusavu area has been closed to all traffic and is expected to be opened later this evening.
Police in the North who are closely monitoring the situation along with the Public Works Department said that the heavy rain in the North has hampered earlier development work along the area.
Assistant Police Spokesperson Atunaisa Sokomuri said that the road area near Lomolomo village has been damaged and have closed the road for the safety of the public.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Works Spokesperson Sainiana Waqaibete said that the major cause of the landslide was due to a water drainage system under the roads has affected the road work and are still working on the road.
