The Ministry of Lands has collected more than six million dollars in rental fees including lease rental arrears as of June this year.

Permanent Secretary, Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni said the Ministry is now developing a strategy to ensure systematic collection of rental arrears as the collection of current rent continues.

Lieutenant Colonel Leweni said they are also clamping down on those who have been evading their rent payment for some time.

Out of the six million dollars, lease arrears is around $2.5, normal rent is about $2.8 million and prepayments is about $1.1.

The Ministry has called on the defaulting tenants to come forward and settle their payments or make arrangements with them on how they will settle their arrears.

The Ministry hopes to collect around $25 million by the end of this year.
