The Mataqali Rara from Vugalei, Tailevu was delighted that the Interim Government has returned 38 acres of their ancestral land and 48 acres of Reserve land to them.
However Mataqali head Jovilisi Kedrayate said while they welcome the decision, members of the matqali want to see the decision to return their land in black and white.
He said the Interim Fijian Affairs Minister Ratu Epeli Ganilau has informed various stakeholders like the Native Land Trust Board on the cabinet decision, but the landowners are yet to receiving anything in writing.
Kedrayate said he met Cabinet secretary Jowasa Volavola last week and he was told that NLTB Acting General Manager Semi Tabakanalagi is the best person to liase and he will met Tabakanalagi this week.
Ratu Epeli Ganilau said the Interim Government is working hard to ensure that the rights and interests of indigenous Fijians are protected, as vested in the constitution.
