Sigatoka police arrested a group of landowners from Nabitu, Ruwailevu, Nadroga yesterday after allegedly illegally occupying the leased land belonging to more than 400 tenants.
Landowners issued eviction notices to these tenants claiming that their leases had expired.
Sigatoka police confirm six landowners are currently in custody.
Speaking on behalf of the landowners, Kalivati Batibasaga said the Interim Government, Native Land Trust Board and other stakeholders are all aware of the matter since the issue was brought to them in 2006.
