Concerns have been raised by various landlords on the extensive damage caused to the buildings that have been rented out to Government.

The Public Service Commission confirmed receiving a number of reports and complaints from these landlords in regards to the damage.

In a statement PSC permanent secretary Parmesh Chand said the damage is due to the lack of responsibility and in some cases negligence by Ministries/Departments/Agencies or civil servants occupying these buildings.

Chand said as a direct result the Landlords have to bear the unnecessary costs of repairing these extensive damage to the premises.

Chand added that the damage are sustained or caused by willful or negligent conduct of the tenant and also including persons coming into the premises with the tenants' consent.

Chand is therefore calling on ministries and departments to play a leading role and take full responsibility in ensuring that their obligations, as tenants as contained in the respective Tenancy Agreements, are adhered to at all times.
