Fiji is in a very precarious position at the moment and to make changes to a legislation that is close to the heart of the indigenous people will only worsen the situation.
Speaking to Village News, Ousted PM Laisenia Qarase said land has always been held close to the hearts of many Fijians and to touch this sensitive spot spells disaster.
Doctor Krishnamurti's report recommended that native land be de-reserved to make room for land to be used for sugarcane farming.
Qarase also adds that proper procedures need to be followed and people need to be consulted, especially at the grass root levels.
