Comments on a referendum's failure by Dr Brij Lal and others, if it were to take place in Fiji, are premature.
This is the view of Interim Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum who said we need to move forward with the National Council for Building a Better Fiji and get everyone's co-operation on this issue.
Sayed-Khaiyum said people need to assist rather than take part in political point scoring to further their own interests.
Dr Brij Lal had earlier said that a Referendum has never been a common means of gauging public opinion on matters of public policy as a parliament has been used as the forum for formulating and approving public policy.
Lal went on to say that with the way the country is divided over the matter, with the SDL, the Methodist Church, the Fiji Law Society and the Fijian Teachers Association opposing the Charter, the hope of it being approved in a Referendum does not look good. He added that this proposal will also fail.
