The People's Concerned Network is hopeful that the Lagilagi Pilot Project at Jittu Estate aimed at housing 162 squatter families, will lead to the end of squatting for the other 200 informal settlements around the country.

The Lagilagi Project which was launched last week, will see a partnership between 162 families and the PCN, whereby the families pay $12,000 over a period of 12-14 years for the construction of their own two or single bedroom home on a piece of land belonging to PCN.

Director Semiti Qalowasa said currently 79 out of the 200 informal settlements have signed up for this partnership, and hopes are high that the Lagilagi project will be an example of the end of these squatter settlements.
