The Lautoka City Council has raised concern that the city's economy faced major losses after a few buildings were burnt in the last couple of years.
CEO Pushp Raj said the PWD and National Fire Authority have their own problems however there was no water supply in the city especially when needed yesterday, as about 15 classrooms of Lautoka Muslim Primary school were destroyed in a fire.
The management of Lautoka Muslim Primary School were yesterday trying to arrange for arrange for furniture and other stationery before students are called back to resume classes.
The fire destroyed the building which had classes one, two, three and five, the school office, the Kindergarten room, Vernacular and Arabic room.
The estimated cost of damage is over half a million dollars.
