The Ministry of Works, Transport and Public Utilities and Land Transport Authority has raised concern at the lack of interest shown on the deregulation of the public service sector.
Land Transport Authority Chief Executive Officer, Etuate Koroi said the scheme started on 1st September this year and LTA has only approved 12 applications.
The scheme deregulates the public service sector in areas where there are either no bus service or the service is intermittent.
The scheme came into effect after requests from affected rural areas for something to be done to ensure service was provided, and to ensure that those who were going to provide the service were not booked for illegal operations. Koroi adds that the authority is also mindful of those bus companies already providing services in the rural areas and will ensure that their routes are protected.
