With the frequent visits of cruise liners to Savusavu this year, plans are in place to open up a handicraft centre in Labasa.

Savusavu/Labasa special administrator Vijay Chand said discussions are taking place with the Commissioner Northern to try and open up the centre so that people in Labasa can also benefit from the visits of the cruise liners.

Chand said at the moment, tourists often spend the whole day in Savusavu and plans are to get tourists to travel to Labasa and experience more of what the north has to offer.

He added this will hopefully give a boost to the northern economy with people and businesses benefitting from the visits.

Two more cruise liners are expected to visit Savusavu this month.
