The Labasa Town Council will follow suit of other councils and will also publish a list of their defaulting rate payers as they have no money to maintain the infrastructure.

Administrator Vijay Chand said that it has been years since roads in the town area were repaired and the council just does not have the money to address the issue.

Chand said that 80-90 percent of defaulting rate payers live in Delai-Labasa and according to Chand, they are the ones that complain about the roads.

Though not revealing how much is owed in rates, Chand said for the past two years, the amount has accumulated into the thousands.

The Nasinu and Suva Councils had earlier revealed that they would publically announce the names of their defaulting rate payers as the debt had risen to over $2million.
