Labasa town was today declared crime free zone.
Special Administrator Vijay Chand confirmed more than 5000 people gathered at Subrail park today to mark this occasion.
Chief Guest Defence Minister, Ratu Epeli Ganilau while addressing the people of Labasa and Chiefs of Macuata, Ratu Epeli stressed that after declaring Labasa a crime free town, it will serve the entire Northern Division as Labasa is main economic center.
He added that Northern Division has seen sharp increase in sexual related crimes and is hopeful this will be reduced.
Also present were Tui Macuata, Ratu Aisea Katonivere, Tui Labasa Adi Salanieta Qomate and Police Commissioner Commodore Esala Teleni.
Meanwhile, Savusavu will be declared a crime free town tomorrow.
