A woman has died while two others are admitted at the Labasa Hospital after the carrier she was in got hit by a bus at around 2.45pm in Vatucoba, Labasa, yesterday.

Police believe the woman was getting off the carrier when the incident occurred.

Divisional traffic officer northern Inspector Luke Ravula has confirmed that both the carrier and the bus were on their way to Labasa town.

The woman was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Labasa Hospital.

Two other people travelling in the carrier including the driver sustained injuries and are admitted at the Labasa Hospital.

The bus driver is in police custody and is under interrogation.

Meanwhile, over the weekend, nine people from the central division spent their weekend in custody after they were caught driving under the influence of liquor.

Five were arrested on Friday night while four were taken into custody last night.

They are all expected to appear in court today.
