Labasa Police are investigating the cause of the fire which destroyed a number of classrooms and offices of Valebasoga Secondary School this morning.

The fire destroyed the 1st floor of the school building comprising of seven classrooms, the Principal’s office, the administration office and staff toilets.

It has also been confirmed that all the school books and other stationery have been destroyed.

Divisional Crime Officer Northern, ASP Luke Rawalai has confirmed that a team of detectives are investigating the fire.

The National Fire Authority has revealed that firefighters pumped water from a nearby creek as there was no fire hydrant in the area.

Quick action also by the firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to the other parts of the buildings.

Divisional Fire Officer North, Isoa Makutu has requested all school Managements to write to the water supply department to install fire hydrants in the school compounds.
