Labasa Taxi Operators have raised serious concerns after claims that the Labasa Town Council has increased taxi meter base permits from $5 to close to $100.
Northern Taxi Association Secretary, Mohammed Imtiyaz Munif said they are shocked to hear the news that base permits will now cost them $100.
Munif adds they will not be able to fork out this amount as business is not good.
However, Labasa Mayor Shivlal Nagindas said compared to other cities and towns, the Labasa Town Council has been offering low charges for taxi base permits and it's time the permit is increased.
