A 49-year-old cane cutter of Labasa is in police custody for allegedly raping his 70-year-old mother earlier this week.
Police media liaison officer Atunaisa Sokomuri has confirmed the alleged incident saying that the mother is admitted in serious condition at the Labasa hospital.
It is alleged the two were at home when the cane cutter assaulted his mother and allegedly raped her.
According to Sokomuri, police are trying to determine whether the suspect smoked marijuana before the incident.
He is expected to be charged later today.
