La Nina period being experienced by Fiji
Director Weather Alipate Waqaicelua said the weather condition has seen the nights being cool and the day being dry.
He stressed that in different parts of the country, there has been no rain at all and this is taking a toll on the water levels.
Meanwhile, this dry spell has seen the Fiji Electricity Authority using the diesel generators more to meet the electricity needs.
FEA CEO Hasmukh Patel said the dam level at Monasavu has dropped to 730.61 meters, adding that people need to use electricity wisely as the situation is now critical.
Meanwhile, the Water Authority also said that people in some parts of the country need to store water for their afternoon use as demand for water increases during this period and due to the low raw water supply, supply may be affected.
As a result, the general public is now being advised to practice water saving techniques such as using alternative sources for washing their cars and driveways and also to ensure that they turn off unnecessary lights.
