Hire cars are not allowed to operate as taxis.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has called on all hire vehicles that are picking up passengers to stop, as this type of operation is classified as illegal operations and even face court action.
Volavola said these cars do not have meters and at the end of the day, it is the passenger that is being robbed.
He added that not only the drivers will have their license taken away but the providers of the hire cars as well.
Meanwhile, Volavola said there are some taxi drivers not using meters and saying that no profit is made, Volavola said the people should come forward and lodge complaints as the public are the ones being robbed.
