Bottle collectors will not be able to collect bottles in the near future.
The Senior Technical Manager of the Occupational Health and Safety Department, Nawal Kishore said they are currently talking to the Land Transport Authority to stop the service.
He said they have observed that the trucks collecting bottles are not OHS compliant as they are not approved by LTA to carry passengers and bottles at the back of the trailer.
Kishore said most of the bottle collectors are children who sit on the bottles and jump from the truck before it fully stops making it dangerous for them as well as pedestrians and drivers.
He said bottle collecting is mostly done in the weekends when the OHS officials are not working. According to Kishore, once the service is stopped, bottle collecting truck owners will have to come up with proper seating arrangements for the bottle collectors and agree to follow other rules before they will be allowed to resume their work.
