Following the increase in taxi fares and meter implementations, the Land Transport Authority will today be handing out warning letters to all taxi drivers to improve the condition of their taxis.
LTA spokesperson Ratu Eroni Volavola said that they have been receiving complaints from members of the public and were waiting for the taxi meters to be calibrated before they started their nationwide campaign.
Volavola added that once this letter has been issued, the drivers have to follow the conditions set out or face suspension of their licenses.
However, Volavola said that the onus falls on the public to report to them if they think that a taxi which is not roadworthy is on the roads and does not have the LTA logo.
