Taxi owners will now have to use taxi meters after it has been gazetted by the Land Transport Authority.
LTA Media Liaison Officer Eroni Volavola said that it is going be an even playing field for all the taxi operators now and passengers will also be satisfied to pay for the same flag fall in all the 12 cities and towns.
He said that all the taxis in Suva, Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka and Nausori have been gazetted to install and use taxi meters while Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki, Nasinu, Savusavu, Taveuni and Labasa are now regulated to install and use taxi meters.
Volavola said those who will not comply will have to pay a fine however some time will be given to the operators to install meters in their taxis.
