The Land Transport Authority has raised concern that most young school children are left unsupervised after school.
Fijivillage has observed that after school, young school children who may be in classes one or two are seen walking along the road unsupervised, crossing from anywhere on their way to the Suva bus stand.
LTA Media Officer Doreen Narayan said these young school children should not be left on their own on the roads.
She said they need the cooperation from everyone in this as LTA and police cannot be present at each and every school hence the cooperation of teachers is vital.
According to Narayan LTA will also be paying close attention to this and monitoring closely.
Narayan stressed for school premises, teachers are to closely monitor this.
In the absence of police and LTA officers, she said teachers should have school lolly pop crossing and school patrol systems in place.
She added this should ensure safe crossing of all students to the respective bus stops or allocated school buses.
LTA said teachers and school heads should ensure that this is effectively in place.
