LTA highlights specifics of road user levy
This simply means that these vehicle owners will have to pay the levy for the load their vehicles carry on the road and not the weight that is checked at the LTA office during inspection.
LTA Spokesperson Eroni Volavola said people should stop complaining about their methods used in this case.
The road user levy is charged according to the engine capacity if a vehicle is less than 3 and half tonnes.
If a vehicle exceeds three and half tonnes than it is charged $75 or more per tonne, depending on the gross tonne of the vehicle.
Looking at vehicles that have engine capacity between 1.5 and 2 litres, owners will have to pay between $56 to $75, which mostly consists of taxis and private vehicles.
A ten wheeler truck is charged close $2,000 while an 18 wheeler truck will be charged close to $4,200 in road user levy.
Buses have a flat rate of $150 for road user levy.
