The Land Transport Authority has defended its plan to set up checkpoints during peak hours on the roads leading to main towns and cities.

LTA Spokesperson, Ratu Eroni Volavola said during peak hours they book most of the drivers because this is the time when drivers are caught with defective vehicles and not following the road rules.

His comments comes after officers from the LTA set up a checkpoint on Rodwell road which is the main road coming to the Suva City this morning.

Fijivillage News witnessed traffic jam from Edinburgh Drive and also from Walubay areas for those who were coming to Suva this morning.

According to Volavola, they will continue with their job and will set up checkpoints during peak hours. He said it does not matter if it causes huge traffic jams in the capital city.
