LTA concerned over unsupervised children on roads
Fijivillage News has observed that after school, young students who may be in Classes 1 or 2 are seen walking along the road unsupervised, crossing from anywhere on their way to Suva bus stand and no enforcement officers like Police or LTA are seen near school premises to ensure the safety of students.
LTA Media Officer Doreen Narayan said young school children should not be left on their own to wander on the roads.
She said they need the cooperation from everyone to address the issue as LTA and police cannot be present at each and every school.
According to Narayan, for school premises, schools teachers are to closely monitor this.
In the absence of police and LTA officers, have school lolly pop crossing and school patrol system in place.
She added that this should ensure safe crossing of all students to the respective bus stops or allocated school buses.
Meanwhile, Parents and elder siblings also play an important role in looking after and educating the younger ones what to do and how to behave while on the road.
