The Land Transport Authority has started random checks for bus tickets from yesterday.
The process involves the movement of authorized officers in buses to check if they are carrying the tickets. This will be a seven day exercise around the country.
Members of the public are advised to ensure they demand for bus tickets when they board the bus.
LTA Media Officer, Doreen Narayan said from next week passengers will be fined $50 to a maximum of $500 or three months imprisonment if they fail to produce the ticket. This penalty applies to drivers as well.
This campaign as a whole is aimed to have a bus ticketing system in order to safeguard and protect the existence of a stable bus service industry that works for everybody.
